Dental Medicine
Diseases of the mouth are common in all animals, and some species and breeds are more prone to them (tartar and retained baby teeth in small-breed dogs). The problems our team sees most often are:
- Baby teeth – retained baby teeth cause many problems when they are not removed in time: food gets trapped between them and the permanent teeth, which leads to caries and gingivitis, and the permanent teeth are pushed out of their normal position.
- Tartar – tartar is porous and an ideal environment for large numbers of microorganisms that release toxins and inflame the gums. Tartar building up between the gum and the base of the teeth loosens the tooth–gum attachment and the teeth start to wobble. To prevent it we recommend brushing your pet's teeth several times a week. Tartar that has already built up is removed in our clinic with a modern ultrasonic scaler.
- Tumours – tumours of the mouth are most often malignant and involve not only the soft tissues (gums) but also the underlying jaw bones. That is why removing them early is extremely important.
